LENT - Lent is the yearly celebration by the Church of its corporate conversion in Jesus Christ. During Lent, the liturgy prepares catechumens to celebrate the Paschal Mystery by the various stages of Christian Initiation. It also prepares the faithful for Easter as they recall their baptism and do penance in preparation for the greatest Feast of the year. Lent has two major purposes: It recalls or prepares for baptism, an emphasizes a spirit of penance. Through forty days of closer attention to God’s Word and of more fervent prayer, believers are prepared to celebrate the Paschal Mystery. Lenten instructions stress these baptismal and penitential themes.
COMMUNION CALLS - If you know of anyone who is unable to get out to Mass and would like to receive Holy Communion, please call the parish office to have their name added to the list. Fr. Dan will do Communions Calls when he is available and he will call prior to the visit.
A PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS (DIOCESE OF ANTIGONISH) - Heavenly Father, bless your Church with an abundance of holy and dedicated priests, deacons, brothers and sisters. Give those you have called to the married state and those you have chosen to live as single persons in the world, the special graces that their lives require. Form as all in the likeness of your Son as that in him, with him and through him, we may love you more deeply and serve you more faithfully, always and everywhere. With Mary we ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Ad limina Visit - Bishop Dunn will be making an ad limina Visit to Rome during the month of March. The visit ‘ad limina Apostolorum’ is designed as an opportunity for each bishop to strengthen his own responsibility as a successor of the Apostles and to strengthen his bonds of being in communion with the Successor of Peter. The two basic purposes for the visit include: a) to venerate the tomb of the Holy Apostles, Peter and Paul; b) to meet with the successor of Peter, the Bishop of Rome. An important element of the visit involves a visit with the Holy Father and a discussion with him about questions concerning pastoral ministry within the Church today. This meeting with take place on Thursday, March 16. The ad limina visit usually takes place every five years; however, it has been much longer than five years since the Bishops of Canada have made a visit, due to special Jubilee Years when there are no ad limina visits. All the bishops of Atlantic Canada will be making their visit together from March 11 to March 22. Please pray for Bishop Dunn as he makes this ad limina visit to Rome.
NOTE: FUNERAL MASSES - In Canada, a Funeral Mass may not be celebrated on Sundays, Holydays of Obligation, Holy Thursday, or during the Easter Triduum (from the Mass of the Lord’s Supper through Easter Sunday inclusively). On these days a Funeral Liturgy without Mass may be celebrated. Funeral Masses are never celebrated on Sundays.
