Lenten Program: During this Holy Season of Lent, we are going to do the Alpha Video Series. This Alpha program is very inspiring and leaves us with so many things to think about and work upon during this Lenten season. This will be held every Thursday of Lent after the Mass at Star of the Sea, Canso.. What is Alpha? Alpha is a series of interactive sessions exploring the basics of the Christian faith. Each session looks at a different question, and is designed to create conversation. No two Alphas look the same–they run in coffee shops, churches, bars, prisons, universities, schools and homes. There's no pressure, no follow up and no charge. What topics are covered?

Life: Is There More to Life Than This? Jesus: Who is Jesus?

Cross: Why Did Jesus Die? Faith: How Can We have Faith?

Prayer: Why and How Do I Pray? Word: Why and How Do I Read the Bible?

Follow: How Does God Guide Us? Spirit: Who Is the Holy Spirit and What Does He Do?

Fill: How Can I Be Filled With the Holy Spirit? Evil: How Can I Resist Evil?

Healing: Does God Heal Today? Church: What About the Church and Telling Others?

We are all encouraged to make out time for this wonderful program. Please check it out online

REFLECTION ON TODAY’S READINGS - Temptation

The Gospel of today is about temptation of Jesus. In preparation to start his ministry, Jesus departed to the wilderness where he stayed for forty days. He sought for detachment from the world in order to make a solid preparation for the reason why he came - the salvation of the world. His departure from the people presented him face to face with the devil, the very enemy of humankind that Jesus had come to salvage. There and then Satan approached the new man as he did the old (Gen 3:1-13). Mark, who liked being succinct and direct, did not record the dialogue between Satan and Jesus. He only presented the contest as that between good and evil. And in this contest, good overcame evil; Jesus defeated Satan and began to proclaim the kingdom of God. Hence he declared: “The time has come; the kingdom of God is at hand. Change your ways and believe the Good News”. Does this ring a bell? The Lenten season, with the six Sundays removed, comprises of forty (40) days. Begin your journey to the desert; arm yourself with fasting, prayer and works of mercy. Get involved in the affairs of the Church. You will conquer and be victorious at the end.

FIRST EUCHARIST /FIRST RECONCILIATION - Parents interested in having their children prepare to celebrate either of these sacraments are asked to contact the parish office as soon as possible. We would like to set up sessions to prepare families to celebrate First Eucharist and First Reconciliation. Please contact the parish office so we will know how many will be involved and we can make the necessary preparations and order materials.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION - Families who are using the Home Program are asked to continue completing the sessions and to pass each unit in as they are completed. Any family who wishes to start a Home Program please contact Marie, it is not too late as sessions can be completed at any time.
