REFLECTION ON TODAY’S READINGS - Sharing the Joy of the Lord - The Angel breaks the incredible news to Mary that you, Lord, have just taken your abode in her womb. Any young woman in her place would have experienced confusion and bewilderment. No wonder, then, that she longed to share her secret and joy with someone and seek advice. Naturally, her elderly cousin Elizabeth was the best choice, for she too despite her old age, was bearing a child. Carrying you in her womb, your mother rushes to meet Elizabeth. What an awesome moment that meeting turns out to be! You are already on duty as our Redeemer, sanctifying John in his mother’s womb. In fact, the child in Elizabeth’s womb responds to your presence, as the mother, filled with the Holy Spirit, bears witness to it. Lord, grant us the grace, to bring your joy to all that we meet along the path of life. May your presence in our hearts, as in Mary’s womb bring salvation and joy to all!

ADVENT: Sunday, November 28 begins the Season of Advent where we prepare for Christmas, when we recall Christ’s first coming among us, and it is also a time when we look forward to his second coming at the end of the ages. Advent is a time of joyful expectation. During Advent, each Sunday’s Gospel reading has a specific focus. The Old Testament readings, especially those taken from Isaiah, are prophecies about the Messiah and messianic times. The selections from the writings of the Apostles present exhortations and instructions on different themes of the season. Let us remember and respond to this expectation in prayer, quiet time and preparation for the celebration of Christmas.
