LENT BEGINS ON ASH WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 17 - The season of Lent is a time of prayer, self-examination and fasting in preparation for the celebration of the resurrection of the Lord at Easter. The 40 days of Lent is a wonderful opportunity to grow in your faith.

REFLECTION ON TODAY’S READINGS The Power of the Word of God

God’s word is powerful. It has the ability to free us and transform our life. When Jesus taught, he spoke with the authority of God as no one had before. The Rabbis, while teaching, would support their statements with quotes from other authorities. The prophets spoke with authority which they had received and that’s why they used the words “Thus says the Lord.” When Jesus spoke he needed no authorities to support his statements. He was authority incarnate - the Word of God made flesh. In his ministry, Jesus manifested his authority both in words and in deeds as the Chosen One of God. When he spoke, God spoke. Even the demons obeyed his commands. When we are confronted with the demons of our today’s circumstances, do we use the power of the words of Jesus to make inroads in our lives?

World Day for Consecrated Life - February 2,2021 is both the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord and the World Day of esteem and prayer for Consecrated Life. The purpose of the day is “to help the entire Church to esteem ever more greatly the witness of those persons who have chosen to follow Christ by means of the practice of the evangelical counsels” as well as “to be a suitable occasion for consecrated persons to renew their commitment and rekindle the fervour which should inspire their offering of themselves to the Lord” ( Saint John Paul II, 1997). Please remember them in your prayers.
