REFLECTION ON TODAY’S READINGS - What is your own Temptation?

Temptations are not sin but causes of sin. They are necessary for our spiritual growth and until we overcome the temptations, we should not lay any claim to being spiritually strong. Our temptations usually spring from the things around us; our common desires; satisfaction of the bodily appetite; craving for prestige and recognition, and acquisition of power and wealth. All these surfaces in the temptations of our Lord Jesus Christ. One key with which Jesus locked up Satan is the “delaying and denying” of gratification. We too must learn to say “NO” to certain demands. We must free ourselves from the spirit of our generation: “Do it here and now.” Let us also beware of the tact and slight of Satan. He may even use words that seem to come from God. If we are abreast with the Scriptures, we will outsmart his gimmicks. Remember, if you win today, do not relax; Satan will return at an opportune time with more force.
