REFLECTION ON TODAY’S READINGS - From ‘Hosanna’ to ‘Crucify Him’

The celebration of the Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion commemorates of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem and the narration of his passion and death. These two events that historically took place on different occasions have been united into a single Liturgical celebration. This celebration is a story of our own lives. Just as Jesus, there are times when we meet with success and receive appreciation and support from others. At other times, we encounter failure and experience of rejection and condemnation. Jesus was a picture of majesty and serenity on both occasions because of his unflinching trust in his Father. He has left us an example to be imitated. Today as well, we see Jesus as truly human. He is in pain. He is confronted with a betrayal from a close and trusted friend. Yet he cannot avert it because that was a way to show his obedience to his Father. His mission was not only to save us from our sins but equally to show us the way to salvation. When in this type of human situation all we have to do is to follow in the footsteps of the Lord. Let us always remember that whatever comes our way after we have sincerely done our best is God’s will for us!

LENTEN CALENDAR FOR YOUR SYNOD JOURNEY - April 8-14

Fast from the Emphasis on Differences, Feast on the Unity of all Life. We see a world increasingly fractured by politics, boundaries and individual beliefs, yet beneath it all, we are all human, and all beloved children of God.

Almsgiving: Reach out to those you know of other denominations, faiths and genders, and invite them into conversation. Reflect on the Synod questions of Ecumenism, and of being companions on the journey. Where can our thinking and actions shift from differences to unity?

Prayer: Offer up a prayer for understanding those we consider different from us, that we may learn more of them and ourselves on this Synod journey. Synod = Journey Together Pray Connect Share Your Story http://www.antigonishdiocese.com/ListeningChurch
