REFLECTION ON TODAY’S READINGS - Christianity Is Not A Spectator Sport
A true disciple never has an easy road. Enduring on the path of discipleship may lead us to division, derision, calumny, rejection, and even death. It is worse for a disciple who is a committed messenger of God (Jeremiah). Yet God who calls also provides and protects. Jeremiah would not die in the mud. Other messengers of God would save his life. No matter what the price we must pay as Christ’s disciples and God’s messengers, the lesson and encouragement of the “cloud of witness” that surrounds us is; that we must stick to the truth and persevere on it. Jesus reminds us: “Your perseverance will win you your life” (Lk 21:19). No fear, he reassures. Revere only the one who can cast both body and soul into hell (Mt 10:28). Taking a stand and telling the truth often invites division and opposition. You are either for Jesus or against Jesus. This can divide a family. It can put you in rejection, opposition, and loneliness. Jesus is preparing His followers for this. There is no comfortable way to be a follower of Christ Frequently there is a high price to pay when you become a disciple through baptism. We are reminded that Christianity is not a spectator sport where we sit on the sidelines and watch.

PRAYER INTENTIONS -

For our Diocesan families: that this summer season may provide opportunities to reconnect with loved ones and restore bonds that may have been weakened during the season of pandemic, We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen

For our Priests: God of mercy and holiness, hear the anguished cry of your people for holy Priests to shepherd them. Fill their hearts with enlightened zeal, that they minister worthily in Your presence, be faithful to Your church always, and come at last to love You with a never ending love. We ask this through Christ, Our Lord. Amen
