NOTE: This is to inform the Parishioners that I will be away from June 12th for the funeral and burial of my late father Mr. Francis Obichukwu Nnajiofor. And because of this, there will be no Weekend Masses in St. Agnes Little Dover and St. Vincent de Paul Queensport from June 18th- July 3rd. Masses will resume in these two churches on the weekend of July 9/10th. Asking for your prayers for a successful and safe trip.

REFLECTION ON TODAY’S READINGS - The Lord’s Invitation to be His Disciples Nothing comes easy in life. Everything requires commitment and to show commitment we need to be ready to put up with any inconvenience. No matter how tight our schedule may be or how scarce our resources, we will duly adjust to accommodate the need depending upon our priority. However, if it is not so important we are quick to find an excuse why we should not be bothered. This attitude of giving excuses can also affect us in the realm of faith. This is clear from today’s gospel where people came up with excuses why they couldn’t follow Him (Jesus) immediately. One asked to first bury his father, another to be allowed to say goodbye to his family. It is not so much that it is bad to say goodbye to one’s family or bury one’s departed. The point Jesus makes is that the claim of the kingdom of God is so urgent that nothing should compete with it. If we have our priorities right, then nothing will ever prevent us from seeking first the kingdom of God. When Jesus invites persons to follow Him, He calls them to leave all other relationships and attachments behind and to cling to Him. This detachment from possessions and family enables the disciple to be free to serve God whole-heartedly. Many of us have a desire to serve God and to offer our lives to Him. But, at times, our attachment to sinful habits or attitudes, to possessions and relationships, hinders us from following Him closely. We need to burn the yoke of slavery to sin and worldly things, and in its place take up the yoke of Christ to find true freedom and joy. St Paul reminds us that if we are to enjoy the freedom that Christ has won for us, we need to allow ourselves to be guided by the Holy Spirit and to make an effort to serve others with love. May we find joy in serving the Lord and loving Him above all things.
