Reflecting
GENERAL INTERCESSION - Imagine this majestic scene: all the people of God, the baptized, standing with Jesus before God. We join Jesus in prayer. In the presence of God we plead that the work of creation, the work of salvation of Jesus, and the sanctification of creation and of our Christian community be completed. We remember before God all the immense needs of the world and of people. This scene is not imaginary: it is enacted whenever the community intercedes with God, as it does in the Eucharist. In Baptism, we were so immersed in Christ that in our prayers we speak as one person with Christ. Through, in and with Christ we act as priests – that is , as mediators between God and the world. That is why the Prayers of Intercession, which end the Liturgy of the Word, are so important. The salvation and well-being of the world depend on these prayers. That is why they require that we be attentive to all the needs of the Church, of the world, of our communities and of our person. |
